In celebration of International Women's Day in 2022, I'm listing my first Modern Witches Illustration based on Thérèse de Dillmont, an Austrian businesswoman, needleworker and author of The Encyclopedia of Needlework, published in1886. In her book, there is an image of an angel with the quote, "Tenu Filo Magnum Texitur Opus" which can be translated to "From One Fine Thread, a Work of Art is born", although I have seen different variations of the translation.

The Project Gutenberg eBook of Encyclopedia of Needlework, by Thérèse de Dillmont can be found for free at www.gutenberg.org

I've written about her before and she is known for her work with Dollfus-Mieg et Compagnie (DMC), the thread company still dominant today that I have predominantly used for my cross stitch patterns and embroidery over the years, so I thought this image was appropriate to pair with my new series of illustrations, Little Witches. I feel it necessary to also mention that two years before de Dillmont's encyclopedia was published, British needleworkers, Sophia Frances Anne Caulfeild and Blanche Catherine Saward, wrote the Dictionary of Needlework, another book considered a bible for needlework. The two publications apparently competed with each other and I am sure there is more to the story. In any case, these women were instrumental in bringing needlework instruction to the forefront in the late 19th century and owned businesses in times where I'm sure not many women had the opportunity to do so.

Happy International Women's Day today and everyday!

Downloading and Printing Instructions:

Your file will be available to you after your payment is confirmed.
You will automatically be emailed a download link for you to download and save the file to your computer. I'd suggest the easiest way to download it is on your computer, not a phone, as you are limited in the number of times you can download the file.

Once you save the file to your computer (check your download folder if you can't find it), you can either print it out at home or send the file to your local professional printer or even a business office supplier printer like Staples! I would suggest printing the file on a good quality 8 1/2" * 11" white presentation paper or white card-stock or photo paper. I prefer Matte paper, but the print also looks good on glossy photo paper. It's totally up to you!

The file prints out to be framed nicely in a 5" * 7" mat opening or an 8" * 10" if you would like more room around the image.

Terms of Use for all Digital Downloads:

"People need art in their houses. They don't need Bed Bath and Beyond dentist-office art. They need weird stuff" -Ezra Croft.

Since 2012, creating prints of my original paintings has always been important to me to make sure my work can reach many audiences at affordable prices. I feel everyone should be able to have the choice to fill their homes with artwork that has grabbed their attention, perhaps reflects their unique taste and lifestyle, and in the case of my work, maybe even conjures up some feelings of magic, myth and wonder like it does for me when I create it.  That being said, I realize offering digital prints opens my work up to the potential of file sharing and much worse, so please take the time to note the following:

- Please use only for personal use and to print it only as intended - Art for your walls.
- All my images are copyrighted and protected. Do not crop or alter the image in any way, including the name and title included in the digital file or use any portion of it in other artwork.
- Please do not share this file. Please direct anyone interested to my shop instead!
- No refunds are available for digital files. If you have an issue with the digital file, please contact me and I will resend the file if needed.

Thank you for your consideration and your support of the Arts!
