October - The Mystic, the October Crone

"What can you say about October that hasn’t already been said?

It embodies the whole year in just 31 days and ends with a meeting embracing my beloved.

I could live through a thousand Octobers and wish to bring you to life with each passing."

~ The Laurel Witch, the Mystic, the October Crone

The October Crone

We all know that in Folklore, the Crone is typically portrayed as a haggard, ugly old woman, sinister in nature and who often antagonizes the youthful, beautiful woman, but do we ever think anything of it? How unfortunate for women that this messaging has been dragged behind us, often without this awareness, throughout the centuries, like shackles weighing down our ankles. This burden is attached to us at a very early age and has been since the beginning of time for us.

For the month of October, let’s say we celebrate the archetype of the true Crone as the Wise Woman, the beautiful woman both inside and out, the empowered woman who has the freedom to live a thousand Octobers again and again, without the judgement or persecution of those who hope to keep us caged in to where they want us to be.

Women of all ages, let’s celebrate each other, no matter which of the thousand Octobers we are living though.

This original illustration is also available as an 8" x 10" PDF download to print yourself! Since 2012, creating prints of my original paintings has always been important to me to make sure my work can reach many audiences at affordable prices. I feel everyone should be able to have the choice to fill their homes with artwork that has grabbed their attention, perhaps reflects their unique taste and lifestyle, and in the case of my work, maybe even conjure up some feelings of magic, myth and wonder like it does for me when I create it.  For that reason, I offer digital prints of my work whenever possible, including this painting. I retain the rights to this painting's image and will  continue to use it for prints and other purposes. Thank you for your understanding and your support of the Arts!
