I grew up with the story that my Scottish grandmother was related to Mary, Queen of Scots, so despite not truly knowing it’s validity, in my search of empowered and mystical women, I am studying her through my artwork. Often these women in power were oppressed and/or controlled and in Mary and her cousin Queen Elizabeth 1’s case, I believe they were perhaps pitted against each other, possibly because men were afraid of what powerful women working together would have meant for them. A story throughout the ages that unfortunately continues. My pieces on this subject help me to understand the progression needed in today's time, how little we have progressed and to personally excel forward as an empowered woman.

My Soft Sculpture Art Dolls can be posed, displayed and handed down for many years to come. These One of a Kind (OOAK) Collectible Art Dolls are not toys, but art pieces to be displayed like other works of Art. Having been professionally trained in Fashion Design using Haute Couture methods and years of experience in Art and Design since, my handmade dolls are sewn with great care and skill. 

Clothes and accessories are typically sewn onto the body and hair is permanently styled. The doll’s arms and legs have been hand-sewn on with embroidery thread. All my dolls are made with muslin, linen or cotton with poly stuffing, natural wool for hair, modern, found, recycled and vintage fabrics and embellished with hand embroidery, vintage jewelry, hand-molded clay accessories and other findings. Raw edges and fraying fabrics, thread knots and visible stitching were all part of the plan and were left with artistic intent. Boots and bodice are painted with water-based paints and although there is a layer of vanish, the doll may fade if placed in the sun. Gentle cleaning/dusting is recommended only when needed and you are welcome to repair her/him if ever needed. 

Each Art Doll’s height is listed and she can sit or stand with the assistance of a doll stand or can be hung on the wall by the threaded loop I have included on the back. My  Collectible Art Dolls have articulated limbs strung with beads to allow for more posing options.

My Art Dolls are not recommended for children because of possible hazards from ie. beaded necklaces and/or painted boots and although the acrylic paint has been treated with fabric medium, it may run if the doll gets wet and should also never go in children's mouths. Gentle cleaning/dusting is recommended and you are welcome to repair her/him if ever needed.
