The Laurel Witch Cross Stitch Pattern PDF - Black Sampler November - Memento Mori

Ahhhhh November... the dark months on my side of the world and here is my Black November Sampler inspired Cross Stitch Pattern. Although it’s not a traditional sampler, I based this design off the traditional appliqué Folk Art of Penny Rugs, aptly named as old pennies and coins were used as templates to cut out wools and other fabrics and hand-stitched with the blanket stitch. Not typically used as rugs though, these decorative mats were used as candle mats, and on mantles and accents throughout the house… a wonderful way to both decorate and not waste anything. I chose to add Memento Mori, in honour of those who came before us and as a nod to All Saints Day/All Soul’s Day on November 1st. Memento Mori – a latin phrase that translates to “Remember that you must die”, which sounds quite morbid, but for some, this is a reminder to appreciate what life offers us while we’re here.

Downloading and Printing Instructions:

Your file will be available to you after your payment is confirmed.
You will automatically be emailed a download link for you to download and save the file to your computer. I'd suggest the easiest way to download it is on your computer, not a phone, as you are limited in the number of times you can download the file.

Once you save the file to your computer (check your download folder if you can't find it), you can either print it out at home, print one or two pages instead of the whole pdf if you'd like, or send the whole file to your local business office supplier printer.

Design Size:
89 x 71  Stitches ***Do check the stitch counts and design size options above the Colour Key.
I stitch most of my patterns 2 over 2 (2 strands of floss) on 28 or 32 count Zweigart Even Weave.
For backstitches I usually stitch with one thread.

Floss:
I think the black DMC 310 would look wonderful if replaced by a variegated black floss or an overdyed black floss like the Leo & Roxy Cotton Floss – Chalkboard. You may need more skeins if you are using a different floss than DMC.

Fabric:
Make sure you have enough fabric to add a border all around the design. I’d suggest adding 5 cm – 7.5 cm (2-3 in) around each side for framing.
