She’s a Canadian Witch, a magical North American Maritimer, who lives in a lighthouse and watches over the ships sailing on sometimes dark and stormy seas. Heed the warnings of the Witch of the East, as she is a Seer and has the wisdom and knowing of all those who came before her, and she sees what others cannot. She has a special relationship with mythical and magical sea creatures and many a wild story has been told about her through the Folklore and Folk Art of the East. When her lantern is shining brightly, you know it is time to light the fires and hunker down with a good cup of tea, a good game of cards, a good book, or to pick up the knitting and mending projects you've been meaning to get to. Some of us think though, that every once in awhile, she lights her lamp even when the cold ocean winds are calm and there is no danger coming... it's as if she knows we just need to take a break from the world every once in awhile. She's just really just that magical, isn't she.

As a Canadian, The Laurel Witch was inspired by the beautiful West Coast of British Columbia. In tea leaf readings, whales often symbolize the West Coast, so naturally she had to include them. The mountain ranges peaked with snow and the witch's cabin in the valley welcomes weary travelers who gather around to hear stories of the Pacific West. While the Witch of the West seems so far away from her Sister Witches in distance over the vast country, the Sister Witches keep closely connected, through magic, through the elements of Air - the wind carries their spells and magical intent to each other with barely a whisper, through Earth - the terrain from one end of the country varies so significantly but underneath it all, they connect through the magical mycelium network, something we humans cannot even fully comprehend, through Fire - oh! the devastation that can be brought with fire can be so overwhelming and cruel, yet shows the power of the elements and the regrowth and rebirth in it's aftermath, and Water - the healing held deep within the shades of blue and turquoise lakes, rivers and oceans give hope to all and a sense of renewal that can uplift even the most skeptical of it's magical properties.

Sister of the Witch of the East and West, and South, the Witch of the North lives in Northern Canada and travels with her magic and love of the land within the Territories of Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. Her warm coat captures life in the cold, but beautiful landscape, complete with the Northern Lights, her cozy home with a perpetual log lit on the fire inside, a skidoo at the ready and a broom to chase the shimmery night skies, and a polar bear familiar, the colour of the snow around her.

The Witch of the South lives in Southern Ontario, Canada where The Laurel Witch is from! She holds deep the Indigenous land where she was just lucky enough to born and honours and protects the name Ontarí’io which means Beautiful Lake or Lake of Shining Waters. The moody waters and the aquatic life within, provide safe passage to travelers who mean well. The nighttime sky that touches the magical shoreline shows it's support from the Hamilton Harbour and its industrial importance, to the twinkling Toronto skyline with it's imposing CN Tower that keeps watch and provides a directional compass to all Witch Sisters and the inhabitants of this beautiful land we call Canada, from the South, to the North, to the East and West. With her, the Witch Sister circle is complete.

Downloading and Printing Instructions:
Your file will be available to you after your payment is confirmed.
You will automatically be emailed a download link for you to download and save the file to your computer. I'd suggest the easiest way to download it is on your computer, not a phone, as you are limited in the number of times you can download the file.
Once you save the file to your computer (check your download folder if you can't find it), you can either print it out at home, print one or two pages instead of the whole pdf if you'd like, or send the whole file to your local business office supplier printer.
Design Size:
***Do check the stitch counts and design size options above each of the Colour Keys.
I stitch most of my patterns 2 over 2 (2 strands of floss) on 28 or 32 count Zweigart Even Weave.
For backstitches I usually stitch with one thread.
Floss:
I think the black DMC 310 would look wonderful if replaced by a variegated black floss or an overdyed black floss like the Leo & Roxy Cotton Floss – Chalkboard. You may need more skeins if you are using a different floss than DMC.
I have only provided one skin tone for each pattern, so please do feel free to use any colours you prefer.
Fabric:
Make sure you have enough fabric to add a border all around the designs. I’d suggest adding 5 cm – 7.5 cm (2-3 in) around each side for framing. These Little Witches can also be finished into little dolls or pillows.
